CAVA and the North Shore Art League are hosting this joint event especially to showcase artwork that sheds light on significant but sometimes overlooked or obscure events in the history of Illinois. This unique exhibition will feature paintings, prints, photography, drawings, fiber art, mixed media, sculpture, and ceramics. Each thoughtfully created artwork will tell a story, interpret an event, or reveal new insights about Illinois' history from a twenty-first century perspective.
Opening reception: Thursday, July 18, 6:30–9:30 p.m.
Sponsored by the Illinois State Poetry Society and the Downers Grove Artists’ Guild, this is always a very popular event. An ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. Through the imaginative act of narrating and reflecting on the “action” of a painting or sculpture, the poet may amplify and expand its meaning. The Illinois State Poetry society authors will draw inspiration from art submitted by the Downers Grove artists and read their original poems out loud as each one is shown.
Dorothy will be participating as both an author and an artist.
Refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to all. Parking is free in the lot or on the street.

Whether funny, heartfelt, shocking, or private, it is up to the visitors to discover what lies behind the art displayed before them. Who knows what mysteries await?
